The Saudi Regime Released the Scholar Sheikh Date : 23 / 03 / 2001 No. : 104 / H / 2001 al-Amri with bad health. Al Amri has a history full of tyranny and oppression Sheikh Mohammad Ali al-Amri is a great religious scholar with a high scholarly and spirit rank.He brings up with his spirit all the adherents of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. On Friday 14/12/1421 A.H coinciding with 09/03/2001, members of al-Mabahith al`Amma (General Directorate of Investigation) arrested him with arbitrary way which was contrary to the Saudi law and methods of stopping, arrest, temporary detention and precautionary detention. Sheik al-Amri is considered the scholar of the province and its prominent notable. He is also advanced in years and patient. The Saudi regime released him after spending nearly twelve days behind bars under cruel and degrading treatment which caused decline of his health. The release of al-Amri was a result of the efforts of effective and efficient parties inside and outside the country. The Saudi regime hurried to release His Eminence when it observed the decline of his health due to the harm and inhuman treatment imposed on him during the period of arrest and detention. The Regime tried to disavow the responsibility of what would happen to him in future, and that was an policy which is used always with some prisoners. It is worth mentioning that sheikh al-Amri had a bitter history full of harassment, arrests and torture on the hands of Saudi regime which is still punishing the scholars severely and oppressing them. 1- The first arrest of Sheikh al-Amri was before 50 years after his return from Najaf in Iraq where he was continuing his religious studies in its religious institute. He was arrested at the check-point of the Saudi Iraqi frontier , and some of juristic books in his possession were confiscated. 2- He was arrested in 1371 A.H in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah with some Shi`a scholars and notables and then exiled to (Farsan Island) in Najran town in the Eastern Province of Arabian Peninsula for six months. 3- In 1400 A.H, Sheikh al-Amri was arrested in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah and detained for six months due to a visit for him by one of Shi`a scholars in his Hussainyah (a hall for religious services) in Nakhawalah district in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. After that, the Hussainyah was demolished and he was called to al-Mabahith al`Amma many times in order to harm and degrade him. 4- In 1415 A.H, Sheikh al-Amri was prohibited to receive any scholar or pilgrim at his salon at al-Awali in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah which was established for performing group prayer. He was also prohibited to held any religious activity during the pilgrimage season in that salon. 5- Sheik al-Amri and his son (Sheikh Kadhom al-Amri) had been prohibited to travel abroad for many years. On this occasion , we call on human rights organization and all freemen worldwide to exert pressure on Saudi regime to release other religious scholars and youths who some of them spent more than six years without trial and denied access to a lawyer. They were also denied information the reasons of their detention. |
