The Saudi regime committed
another crime against the scholars and Islam when it arrested one of the most
prominent scholars in Arabian Peninsula within the framework of the wide
campaign which has been displayed by the Regime against religious scholars
before four years to found the denominational discrimination, religious
persecution and the freedom of religious activity which is attached to the
Regime’s Religious Establishment.
On 12/07/1999, the Saudi regime
arrested Sheikh Ghalib Hassan al-Hammad, a 46- year- old, from Tarout Island at al-Dahran Airport on
his arrival to the country.
It is worth mentioning that
Sheikh al-Hammad , who is considered one of the embodiments of science and
studying and a prominent teacher of the theological school, is the fifth
personality who was detained during the period between May and July 1999, whereas
the Regime has previously detained (Sayyid Hassan Sayyid Mohammad al-Yousif
from al-Mubrraz city in Ihsaa, Sheikh Habib al-Hamad Ihsaa, Sheikh Habeeb
al-Ahmad- Ihsaa, and Sheikh Yousif al-Jasem, Ihsaa).
It is note worth that Sheikh
Ghalib al-Hammad was detained in 1982 on his return to the country from abroad
where he was pursuing his religious studies.
As we protest this arbitrary
measure that is contrary to Islamic and human laws and norms, we call on
Islamic jurists , scholars and thinkers and the Muslims all over the world ,
the human rights organizations to unite with the issue of the citizens and
scholars of Arabian Peninsula who are still held in Saudi prisons and jails and
spare no efforts to exert pressure on the Saudi regime to release them and save
them from the torture subjected for four years.
